Close Enough

This vintage jacket actually found me; it was hanging there in the dressing room in St. Vinny's when I went thrift shopping with my mom in Albany, Oregon. I picked it up, noticed the wasp-waisted shaping and double row of Bakelite buttons, put it on, and found that it fit perfectly. $4.49 later it was mine.

I figured this jacket was the perfect vehicle for my evil-looking cat brooch with googly white eyes, which Katie reminded me I needed to wear. I'm not sure it's from exactly the same era as the jacket, but it's close enough for me.

Jacket: vintage
Brooch: vintage Trifari
Pearls: grandma's
Skirt: Eva Franco
Shoes: BCBGirls

What a fun skirt! It looks nice and cozy, too.
With an outfit like this, do you wear a nice blouse underneath or just keep your jacket buttoned up all day? I'm never sure how to work fitted jackets to my advantage... =)

Ravina Sniper: I wore a tank under this, and in the end I was glad I did because it got pretty warm that day. The outfit without the jacket wasn't nearly as stylish, but it was functional and much cooler. If this were a winter outfit I'd probably just have worn a cami and planned on not removing the jacket.

Love it when garments already in an abandoned fitting room end up working. The jacket is simply fab!

I like to browse the racks near change rooms just because if it got there, that means someone thought it was good enough to try on and it may have merit! And that SKIRT! Amazing!

I can't believe you found that jacket in Oregon! The Salem (Oregon) area St. Vincent's have started a "vintage" section where they take everything they're able to identify as vintage and mark it up about 200%. I've been meaning to head down to Albany to thrift - this might be the incentive I need!

Gracey: Well in truth, the only reason it was so cheap is because there was no tag on it, so the (clearly vintage-naive) guy at the counter just used the default blazer price. My mom gave me a sly, approving sideways glance when it rang up at $4.49; both of us knew it would've been marked way up normally.
