Afterthought

This outfit might have been a little much with the hat and the plaid and all those layers. Looking at it now in the photos, it strikes me as being very busy. Thankfully, I couldn't care less. I haven't been wearing hats as much lately and I felt like I was long overdue for sporting one, especially one of my own. So I grabbed this one as an afterthought once I'd put the rest of the outfit together. As for the layers, they were just flat out necessary; the red tank top filled in the low neckline of the dress, and the cardigan kept me from freezing. This cardigan has truly been a lifesaver for me this summer; I must have worn it at least 20 times since I got it just a few months ago.

Dress, cardigan: All Saints
Belt: thrifted
Hat: AudraJean
Boots: Morgan (second hand)

Hey Audi! Long-time lurker, and I love how you're daring to dress up as a woman with your own beat, especially in a science company. (I'm looking to enter that field too, and trying to figure out how to navigate my style with their standards..)

I'd just want to pass on this F21 top I found while browsing, as it basically very much has all the elements that remind me of your style.

It's weird, it's like it was made for you. Keep on styling!

I am in love with all your boots!! As someone who is looking for new boots for now through the fall, what are your favorite brands and places to find boots?

Any particular favorites or least favorites?

I was just thinking the other day that it's been a while since we've seen you in a hat. This one looks smashing!

I love the hat - it has such attitude - and I don't find this look busy at all. It's how I want to dress right now, actually. I recently saw that dress (or one similar to it) and fell in love with it. Seeing how you've styled it makes me want it even more. Love this look, Audi!

I am in love with that dress and those boots (you know I like the cowgirl look).

But the hat! Oh my! Joy! I've been remiss in wearing my own hats this year. Must do something to rectify that...

It's such a cute hat!

I've been avoiding hats while growing out my hair -- they looked cute when it was super short, but not in the awkward in-between stages. But now I think it's time to revisit them.

Iris: Holy cow, what a spot-on pick! I just placed my order! :-)

Mikaela: My favorite among the boots I own is still my old pair of Bata brown riding boots that I bought in Prague several years ago. But I also like Frye for their solid construction and durability (though be careful with the sizing -- they can run really small), Fly London for the funky detailing, and John Fluevog for the quality and sheer originality. Other well-loved pairs are my Modern Vintage, Bronx, and Jeffrey Campbell boots. I buy most of my shoes through online retailers such as Endless, Amazon, and Solestruck. Once you find a style you like, ALWAYS search for it elsewhere so you know you're getting the best deal; prices can vary drastically even between affiliated sites like Endless and Amazon.

As for least favorites, I have a pair of Miz Mooz boots that are cute, but feel cheaply made to me, and though I did save a few bucks by going with that brand versus a higher end one, I wouldn't say the cost savings really makes up for the sacrifice in quality. I'm of the opionion that a good pair of boots is well worth the investment.
