Turned Up To 11

Sure, this outfit really screams "autumn" with the saturated jewel tones, but dudes, it is COLD here these days. While Sal reports scorching weather in the 90's in Minneapolis, we've got the foggy 50's out here. What's really hilarious is that I heard on NPR this morning that as a result of the abnormally cool summer, Bay Area electric bills are down. They obviously mean in places like San Jose or Walnut Creek, where it normally gets hot this time of year. In San Francisco nobody has air conditioning anyway, so most likely the energy bills in this town are going UP as people turn their heat on!

I decided to pair this bright blue dress with the purple cardigan because of the flower pattern on the dress, which is outlined in a color that looks faintly purple to me. I thought it would be fun to try the two saturated colors together. Since the color volume was already turned up to 11, I chose black accessories to tone it down a bit.

Dress: eShakti
Cardigan: S
Belt: Red Dress Shoppe

What bizarre weather! I do love this outfit - the colors are so vibrant.

Those colors are fantastic together.

I can't wait to get to SF for my little vacation. I'll have to pay attention to what you're wearing so I pack the right thing and don't have to emergency shop at the Gap like I did last year. We are having several "careful, if you go outside you might burst into flames" days in a row here. Seriously. That's what the weather advisories say.

Cynthia: Layers, bring plenty of layers!! Although depending on when you're coming it might have warmed up by then; our good weather usually starts in August and lasts through October.

I remember that from last year! I was basically there for the first week of August and after the first few days of clouds it got sunny and warm(er).

Great colors! Makes me look forward to the return of autumn here... I love that electric blue but I'm never sure what to wear with it to tone it down.

I was in SF in October a few years back and it was lovely, just like the weather here. We're in the 50s in the mornings here, and in the low 70s during the day. I choose to dress more summery and be a bit cold.

I love the saturated jewel tones here, Audi - just gorgeous on you. I might copy this. :)

Great outfit - I love the saturated colours. It was obviously the day for it as I wore a super-saturated outfit too (except I didn't tone mine down - hee hee).

A perfect example of why I love reading people's style blogs: I would have NEVER thought to pair cobalt blue and purple together and it looks AMAZING! Love the black as a neutral anchor, too!

Gah, I love this. That electric blue is so fab with the purple and black. And I don't think I told you I nabbed those same JC boots a while back! LOVE them.

This is a very successful outfit. You almost make me dare to wear a sweater open like yours with a belt over it.

I have a photo of myself age 8 or 9 standing next to a SF mission in July. I'm shivering and wearing a sweater. It looks like I'm standing by a huge ice cube.

When I saw this pic I heard myself saying "Ooooooooo" before I even really registered that I was saying anything. The colors are so stunning. That blue is like total eye candy. Beautiful!

Oh, I second what Cynthia said-- good to know about the weather! We're heading to California next week and spending the second half the trip in San Francisco, and I've been meaning to ask you what's with all the layers. Here I am packing for summer (in Baltimore it's been between 90 and 105 for several weeks).

For some reason I'm always shocked when people from SF talk about how cold the summers are. I can't imagine a "summer" in the 50s!

Near Apple Headquarters, it's only in the high 70's-low 80's, so don't need the air conditioning.

"Well, it's one louder, isn't it?"

Anyway, I love these vibrant colors, and I'm DESPERATELY jealous of your cool weather!

These colors are beautiful and even MORE lovely together!

Was it Mark Twain that said "the coldest day I ever spent was in San Francisco in the Summer"? Anyway, sure am jealous of all your wonderful layering and boots and all. Trying to follow your lead here in Phoenix where its been 110 degrees. Just too darn hot to be cute like you! But your outfit reminds me of cool and I shall endeavor to press into that! Good work as always!

like the lady said - layer! read the national weather service forecasts for the town(s) you will be visiting. SF doesn't equal Berkeley doesn't equal San Rafael, and so on.

also morning (when fog has cooled it all down)( doesn't equal 3pm (where the sun has burned off all the fog and things can get hot hot hot).

www.noaa.gov - check it out!

I love, love these colors. I wish I had both of those in something. I think its hard to find and keep rich colors bright. Do you have a trick for that? I wonder if a neutral other than black would have worked... I'm inspired!

I'm inspired as well... I love how these vibrant shades work with each other.
