Gangs of New York Meets Casey Jones

So clearly I'm enamored of these shorts, as it's the second time I've worn them in as many weeks. I have several ideas for these, and I aim to try them all before too long. First I want to try pairing them with my polka dot tie, and then with a pair of suspenders I've had sitting around for a long time unworn and a cute pair of oxfords which I haven't worn yet because they need a bit of stretching first. So many options! Oh right, except for the option of actually wearing them as shorts, with bare legs, because it's too fucking cold here even though it's late July. Not that I'm bitter or anything. You go on and enjoy your summer like normal people do, with exposed skin, barbeques, sprinklers, and the like. I'll be okay, just let me grab a sweater. And maybe a scarf.

For this outfit I used my idea of pairing the shorts with heavy combat boots, a thermal shirt, and a classic, chain-embellished waistcoat for sort of a Gangs of New York meets Casey Jones kind of vibe. Perhaps I should've added an oversized top hat. Not that I need a hat to keep the sun off, mind you!

Shirt: All Saints
Waistcoat: Heathen
Shorts: White House Black Market
Boots: Dr. Marten's

Yes, you're definitely giving off a Butcher Bill kind of vibe - love it! The pocket watch chain is the best part.

Sorry to hear your summer is sucking. If I could spare the warm weather here (to the north of you, near Vancouver), I would, but we just got it, so I'm jealously hoarding it. Mine.

Come visit Charlotte. Enjoy our skin-boiling temperatures and 105% relative humidity. Nope. Can't feel sorry for you over here. Jealous of your outfit, maybe. :-)

Love the shorts!

I'm ambivalent about the weather. On one hand, I lived in the Sacramento area for a few years and remember how miserably hot it was (hello heatstroke!), so I'll take 60 degree summers any day. But on the other hand, it seems colder than usual this year...or maybe I'm just crazy.

Those shorts again! I love how you look in them.

By the way, I live in Phoenix, where it's been over 105 every day this summer. Would you like a few degrees? :)

Totally willing to send you the hot weather of the south-eastern US. It's miserable.

I'm in love the vest and the pocket-chain

Well, I've been reading your blog for a few months now, and actually read all the old posts too, so it's probably time to finally say 'hello'. I love your style and I've learned so much from you! I see my own style beginning to change, I start wearing my old clothes differently and I even started to wear belts (which I never did before). Thank you for your blog!

Now we live just an hour drive from you, in the South Bay, but of course the weather here is so different. We like to go to San Francisco on weekends, and on previous occasions we almost froze to death (didn't you say somewhere that you recognize tourists because they wear shorts in July? Oh well... that's us. It happens to us every summer!). This last Sunday however I made myself believe that it could be freezing one hour drive from us, although it's so hot here, and dressed all my family in winter clothes. And we finally had some great time!

Kansas is hot. Really hot. Sorry nothing but jealousy here. Although playing in the sprinkler is fun :)

It's bizarre that we even live in the same country and experience such different weather.

That waistcoat is such a superb fit. And the layered chains look amazing!

Nicely styled. This is classic Audi style in my humble opinion.

Your outfit is great. It is very feminine, even though you used menswear inspired pieces.

I'm in Minnesota, and I'm a little jealous that you can wear cool weather clothes right now.

Great outfit, but I especially love the waistcoat! Feminine and kick ass.

I read that this has been San Francisco's coldest summer in 40 years. (Which is pretty impressive: summers here are always cold.) I've worn something sleeveless exactly twice this year.

I admire your style in the face of our climate challenges.

i love this look :) i have a pair of grey shorts that length which might just need to be styled similarly when it gets a bit cooler around here.

i'd trade your lovely cool summers for the midwest's sweltering heat any day! it's pretty much miserable and i only own like three summer outfits... my sister gets on to me when we shop because i still only want to buy sweaters and cardigans even though it's 100 degrees outside! and the aforementioned shorts are the only pair i own... :)

Love this! I think it might be my favourite outfit EVER from your blog. And, if not favourite, well definitely Top 3.
